Josh was first employed by Chris Rutherford while Chris was the Director of Golf at Noosa Springs on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast. Josh made the move to Brisbane with Chris in January 2004 to develop his skills to one day become a Golf Professional.

Josh played off scratch as a Member of Royal Queensland Golf Club before commencing his Traineeship in January 2008.

In December 2008, Josh was the recipient of a Titleist-Footjoy "Excellence in Education Scholarship". Josh placed third, Australia-wide, on the 1st year Trainee grade point averages across a combination of all academic, practical and playing components.

2008 Notable Playing Achievements:

For the first half of 2008, Josh managed one top 10 finish in the Monday trainee pro-ams. The QLD Trainee Championships held at Perigian Springs in June was the turing point when Josh mad the cut and finished tied for 28th. This provided some momentum leading into the second half of the year.

After a six week playing break, the Monday trainee pro-ams resumed at Hervey Bay in July. Josh went on to finish in the top 10 a total of twelve times during the second half of 2008, which included a second place finish in the Gympie pro-am and third place in the Caboulture pro-am.

The Queensland Trainee Foursomes Championships were held in November at Indooroopilly Golf Club. Josh paired with Brisbane Golf Club 1st year Trainee Professional Heather Warren to finish third in the tournament.

At the conclusion of the QLD Trainee Championships in June, Josh was placed outside the top 50 on the Queensland trainee Order of Merit. Josh's performance in the second half of the year saw him move up the list to finsish 18th for the year.
